Postcard from Nice: sur la Prom

I said at the end of my last blog piece that I was going off to take some pictures while I cogitated on a lens problem. The lens conundrum remains unsolved, but – oh my goodness – I've been taking pictures, enough that I have a backlog to work through that is hard to manage. As a consequence, the next few blog posts are going to be out of chronological order. I've managed to process a few shots that are my most recent, so rather than delay everything, I'm posting these now.

We have just returned from Nice, in the south of France, from a few days away (wedding anniversary!) We've not been there since before the pandemic, so it was lovely to revisit and enjoy the city again. As always, Nice was gorgeous and provided a last glow of warmth before we settle into normal British weather (cold and damp) for the next 6 months or so.

I managed to get some shutter therapy pottering for a short time on the Promenade Des Anglais, the long promenade that runs next to the sea. This is an extremely target-rich environment for any street photographer: there's plenty of space for people to walk, sit, jog, cycle or skateboard, and it is extremely popular.

I'm presenting a small selection as a project, mostly in pairs of related images. The light and the warmth were wonderful and these pictures convey some of that feeling.

FWIW: the pictures were taken either with my Lumix GX-9 and 12-60 mm lens, or my phone.

A couple lacking a lower half?

I imagine that the green, polka dot and yellow seats refer to jerseys in the Tour de France?? An unexpected visual echo in any case.

And finally … one more for “On Reading” :)
