Local note: Ukrainian flags
This is a note just for the record.
On Feb 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine. This was an illegal act of aggression against a sovereign country that was unprovoked but long premeditated. What has followed is a terrible, murderous war that has seen dreadful crimes committed by Russians against Ukrainian citizens. The dictator of Russia has been named a war criminal and the International Criminal Court is in the process of beginning investigations into atrocities. At the time of writing, there is no indication that this war of aggression will have a resolution in the foreseeable future; the war may last for years.
It is unusual — unique as far as I can remember — to see widespread signs of support for another country involved in a war, at least near where I live. So, it has been remarkable to see Ukrainian flags flying on people's houses showing strong support for the people of Ukraine. They are not everywhere, but walk five minutes in any direction and you'll see them.
I've documented some with my visual notebook (my phone) while out and about. I'm just posting a few here so they are not forgotten. (The weather when I took most of these pictures was miserable, dark and grey; it has been snowing today.)
