Postcards from New York and San Francisco. 3: From a Berkeley women's cooperative.

"Thug for life" by Alina Xu, Jane Francis and Michel Tam, 2009

My daughter is living is a women's cooperative building close to the Berkeley campus. I felt quite privileged, as a member of the patriarchy, to be invited in. It was an amazing place - in many ways the living continuation of the Bezerkely of legend.

Something that really caught my eye was the decorations on the walls: paintings, cartoons, and endless written comments. Apparently they accumulate over years, until the time comes for the place to be re-decorated.

Here are a few pictures that represent a little of the atmosphere. I think that anyone living there is incredibly lucky.

A Klimt reference? I don't have the artist or title, unfortunately.

Molecules of happiness: caffeine, dopamine and serotonin

... of course!

Thank you to all the artists whose work is pictured here.
